They may have chosen bodies that resonate with themselves somehow. - They're ghosts from previous voyages, the specters who've been around the ship. - They do have the ability to access memories from their hosts. - They're trying to bring back others they cared about, from their voyages. Or at least that's the stated goal of one of them, but I imagine others may be doing the same. Some were mentioned by name: Sarah and Billy and Traci. -- Sarah in particular was noted to be kind, to befriend everyone. - They're struggling with their own memories to some degree.
